How it is named:-
Narsingdi is a district nurtured in ancient civilization and tradition along the banks of Meghna, Shitalakshya, Arialkhan and old Brahmaputra rivers. Due to its improved communication and location, the district has emerged as a prosperous district in agriculture, industry, economy, sports and culture. The district is located between 23 ৬ 46 'to 24 ° 14' north axis and 90 ° 35 'and 90 ° 60' east longitude.
Surrounded by Kishoreganj in the north, Brahmanbaria in the east, Narayanganj and Brahmanbaria in the south and Gazipur in the west, the district has a glorious ancient history. Recently, in the Wari-Bateshwar area of Belab upazila of the district, an ancient civilization of about three thousand years has been found at a place called Asmarajar Garh. Besides, this district has a glorious history of liberation war.
At the beginning of the Great War of Liberation in 1971, the freedom fighters vigorously resisted the first invading Pakistani forces outside Dhaka at a place called Panchdona in the district and the war began. In this battle, an armored vehicle of the invading Pakistani forces was destroyed and several Pakistani soldiers were killed. Shahid সAsad, the hero of the mass uprising of 1969, Flight Lt. Matiur Rahman, who received the title of Bir Shrestha of the War of Liberation; Girish Chandra Sen, the first Bengali translator of the Holy Quran, is a child of this district.
